A Car’s AC System is a Complicated Process

The air conditioning in today’s vehicle’s is a complicated system that most people don’t think too much about until it stops blowing cold air. The ASE-certified experts at Tire Works are factory-trained to service and repair the computerized components in your AC system and adhere to all environmental disposal requirements.

The Components of Your AC System

Compressor

This is the core of the AC system. It acts like a simple pump and it compresses the refrigerant gas and transfers it into the condenser.

Condenser

Located directly in front of the radiator, its function is to cool the refrigerant. It dissipates the heat released by the gases from the compressor.

Receiver (Drier)

The drier needs to be changed every 3-4 years. It absorbs moisture from the coolant and filters debris and acids from the system.

Orifice Tube/Expansion Valve

This regulates the flow of refrigerant throughout the entire system. It also turns the refrigerant into a liquid that can move into the evaporator.

Evaporator

This piece of the system is susceptible to becoming corroded by acids. It removes heat from the inside cabin of the car and reduces humidity. It also contains the most refrigerant as it does its job.

  • Bad smells: If there is an issue with moisture in your car AC, it may lead to mold and mildew growing.

What does the compressor in my car air conditioning system do?

The compressor in the AC of your vehicle is one of the most important parts of your auto AC unit. The compressor acts to maintain the air pressure within the car air conditioning system and ensure the proper flow of refrigerant and cool air.

If there is an issue with the compressor, it may begin to slowly start blowing warmer air and emitting a whining or grinding noise when running. Before long, it will not blow cool air at all and will need replacing and a trip to Tire Works Total Car Care for some auto AC repair.

Are there some auto AC repairs I can do myself?

While there are certainly some benefits to fixing issues yourself, oftentimes the car air conditioning systems of today require specific knowledge and certain tools to resolve the issue. Because auto AC systems are increasingly complex and computerized, we would highly recommend letting a professional mechanic manage any and all car AC repairs.
